ECHL: Adirondack, Maine, and Tahoe Complete a Three-Team Trade

Rich LeBlanc/InsideTheRink

The Adirondack Thunder, Maine Mariners, and Tahoe Knight Monsters completed a three-team trade earlier today. However, only two of the teams would receive players as the Thunder ended up with the Future Considerations that began the day with Tahoe. Let’s breakdown the three-team trade by team.

Maine Mariners

The Maine Mariners would send defenseman Jake Stevens to the Tahoe Knight Monsters in exchange for future considerations. Maine wouldn’t hold on to those future considerations for long as they would flip them to the Thunder in exchange for James Marooney. The 25-year-old defenseman played in 28 games with the Thunder while putting up four assists in his rookie season. Before going pro, he spent five seasons at the NCAA level, including four with Ohio State University and a year with the University of St.Thomas. In 95 NCAA games, he had one goal and 19 assists for 20 points.

This doesn’t come as a shock as the Mariners have spent the last couple of weeks filling holes as they’ve had a handful of guys head overseas. The change of scenery should help Marooney as he should see more playing time after coming from an Adirondack team with a very crowded blueline.

Tahoe Knight Monsters

In a swap of defensemen with the Mariners, the Knight Monsters acquired Jake Stevens. The 28-year-old blueliner adds more experience to the Tahoe blueline as the Knight Monsters will be his fifth ECHL team throughout his three-year career. He has four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in 54 career games. Stevens joined the Mariners at the beginning of the new year and played nine games, with Maine failing to find the scoresheet. Prior to going pro, he spent five seasons in the NCAA, which included four years at St.Lawerence University, before spending his final year of eligibility at Long Island University. He would put up 11 goals and 46 assists for 57 points in 149 games.

Adirondack Thunder

The Thunder needed to make a move on the blueline, and unfortunately, Marooney was the odd man out for Adirondack. However, the Thunder continues to rack up some more future considerations to use later this year or this Summer to help build the team for next season.
