Adirondack Thunder Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Pete MacArthur said during his post-game media availability on Wednesday that changes were coming, and they began on Friday morning as the team announced that they had signed rookie forward Tyson Kirby. He was 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points in 14 games this season in the FPHL.
Prior to making the jump to FPHL and SPHL, Kirby spent his collegiate career at SUNY-Oswego, where he put up eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points in 44 games throughout his three seasons as a member of the Lakers. Kirby, 27, has spent most of the last four seasons in the FPHL with the Binghampton Black Bears, where he’s put up 89 goals and 107 assists for 196 points in 132 games. He’s also spent the last two seasons as a player-assistant coach for the Black Bears while also serving as their captain. The Prescott, Ontario native led the Black Bears to a Commissoner’s Cup last year. Kirby has also seen 30 games at the SPHL level, where he’s put up six goals and 12 assists for 18 points while playing with the Fayetteville Marksmen, Evansville Thunderbolts, and Roanoke Rail Yard Dogs.
Kirby plays that “ADK Hockey” style that MacArthur keeps talking about, as he’s a guy who’s been able to pick up points at both the FPHL and SPHL levels as the 6’0,190lb forward has racked up over 100 penalty minutes in his last two years in the FPHL.
