The Adirondack Thunder have announced that they have signed assistant coach Mike Bergin to a two-year extension. This comes just a week after the Thunder announced a two-year extension for Head Coach Pete MacArthur. Bergin has been a huge help to MacArthur, as prior to taking the head coaching position, MacArthur didn’t have any prior coaching experience. Prior to joining the Thunder, Bergin had spent the past five seasons at Skidmore College, where he was able to help Pete adjust to the new role. During his two-year stint as the assistant coach with the Thunder, Bergin found himself filling in as head coach for MacArthur for a handful of games and seemed to be very comfortable in the position as well, and would pick up his first win as a head coach on January 31st, 2023 vs. Trois-Rivieres Lions.
“I am extremely humbled and excited to continue on the bench with the Thunder”, said Bergin. “The energy the fans bring at Cool Insuring Arena is second to none, and I am so proud and grateful to continue with the organization. We have some unfinished business this season and I am excited to get back to the top of the North Division and be Kelly Cup contenders.”

Prior to going into coaching, Bergin spent four years in the ECHL, one with the Elmira Jackals and his final three seasons with the Adirondack Thunder. He would put up seven goals and 28 assists for 35 points in 187 regular season games and would add one goal and two assists for three points in 25 career Kelly Cup Playoff Games. Bergin was originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in the seventh round of the 2008 NHL Draft but never made it any higher than the ECHL.
