The Adirondack Thunder have announced that Head Coach Pete MacArthur has stepped down to pursue other opportunities after seven years in the Thunder organization. Assistant Coach Mike Bergin is still with the Thunder as of May 2nd, 2024. Both coaches were given a two-year extension last Summer. During his three years as Head Coach, MacArthur posted a 101-88-19-8 record, leading Adirondack to two Kelly Cup Playoff appearances. He was one of only four coaches in Adirondack History to hit 100 wins. Adirondack is coming off a rough year where they went 26-41-3-2 and finished last place in the Eastern Conference. Despite the struggles, MacArthur made a lot of solid mid-season acquisitions that seemed to make an impact immediately. This year, you can look at guys like Isaiah Fox, Grant Loven, and Kishaun Gervais.

Pete MacArthur would lead Adirondack to the Playoffs in 2023 as they snuck on the last day of the season, completing an almost impossible second-half comeback. The following season, he led the Thunder to their best season in franchise history, where they went 43-18-7-4 and made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. His impact in Glens Falls was also felt during his playing days. The Clifton Park, NY, native spent four years with Adirondack, including three as the team’s captain. He had 53 goals and 122 assists for 175 points in 202 games. All of those top 5 in Thunder Franchise history.

“What an honor it has been to play and coach for Adirondack,” said MacArthur. “It’s never easy moving on, but it is time for family to come first. We are forever grateful for the amazing memories and countless friendships we have made here. We will miss the fans and the community who support the team so strongly and make our arena truly one of a kind. Having the chance to play and coach in your backyard is a privilege that I never took for granted and will cherish forever. Thank you to everyone who has made the ride so special.”

Adirondack has announced that the search for the team’s fifth head coach has begun.
