The Adirondack Thunder have announced that they have re-signed Ryan Wheeler for the 2024-25 season. Prior to joining the Thunder, the New York native played in 72 games with the Iowa Heartlanders and seven games with the Cincinnati Cyclones, scoring one goal and adding 11 assists for 12 points. Prior to going pro he spent four years at UConn, where he put up four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 108 games.
“Ryan Wheeler worked himself into a very valuable asset for us,” said Head Coach Pete MacArthur. “He can play defense or offense at a high level, plays with compete every shift, is a great person in the locker room and continues to improve.”

In his first year in Adirondack, Wheeler put up 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points in 61 games during the regular season and added four goals and one assist for five points in 17 Kelly Cup Playoff Games. Wheeler was a huge part of the Thunder last season as he was able to not only play on the blue line but also spend time as a forward with the Thunder. He would thrive in the new role that Head Coach Pete MacArthur gave him as he would win the Team’s Unsung Hero Award. Heading into the 2024-25 season, expect Wheeler to see time mostly as a forward and be able to slide back on the blueliner if the Thunder are short on defensemen.
