The Adirondack Thunder have announced that they have suspended forward Patrick Polino. It has yet to be announced if it was a team-related issue or if Polino is expected to go overseas, and this is for the Thunder to keep his ECHL rights. Polino had three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 26 games with Adirondack after being acquired in the Tristan Ashbrook trade. This is the third player that the Thunder have suspended after they suspended Ryan Francis at the beginning of the season, who recently rejoined the team, and Ryan Smith, who has since gone overseas.
Polino, 29, has played four seasons of professional hockey, including three in the ECHL with the Cincinnati Cyclones and Adirondack Thunder, where he’s put up 57 goals and 89 assists for 146 points in 196 ECHL games. He’s added three goals and four assists for seven points in 18 career Kelly Cup Playoff Games. The Buffalo, NY, native has also played in 36 games at the AHL level, where he’s put up five goals and four assists for nine points while spending time with the Rochester Americans and Providence Bruins. There’s no doubt that this trade hasn’t exactly worked out for Adirondack, as Polino was coming off back-to-back 23-goal seasons and hasn’t been the offensive firepower that the Thunder expected. It will be interesting to see how Pete MacArthur decides to address the loss of Polino, especially with a lot of the recent signings fitting in nicely so far this season.
