ECHL: Adirondack Thunder Transactions | 03/18/2024

The Adirondack Thunder have signed their second player from Northern Michigan University as they have signed defensemen Mike Van Unen. Adirondack’s newest defender has spent the past five seasons with the Huskies, putting up seven goals and 39 assists for 46 points in 145 games, including a goal and three assists in 17 games this season. He also blocked over 300 shots. The 6’1 blueliner will be joining Andre Ghantous, who also played for the Huskies during his collegiate career and made his ECHL debut for the Thunder last Friday in Maine.

Adirondack also announced that they have released defenceman Ryan Orgel and Jordan Di Cicco. Orgel is a somewhat surprising move, as he’s been with the Thunder since the 2022-23 season after coming up from the Pensacola Ice Flyers. In 85 games with Adirondack, he’s put up six goals and 28 assists for 34 points; he’s only played in 40 of the 59 games this season, so I would expect him to find a new home very quickly. Jordan Di Cicco is released after playing just two games with the Thunder after being signed on March 13th. Jackson van de Leest was also released from his PTO and will likely report back to Adirondack. He has two assists in 10 games with Adirondack and played in one game with Utica failing to find the scoresheet.

Goaltender Isaac Poulter comes down from Utica for the first time since the end of last season and goaltender Tyler Brennan hit the IR.
