The Adirondack Thunder have lost back-to-back games for the first time since their first two games of the season, as they lost on opening night vs Worcester and in their home opener in OT vs Maine. It was the first visit to Cool Insuring Arena, and when asked if this was a revenge game for the team, Worcester Railers head coach Jordan Smotherman said, “I’ve been coming here for revenge games every time since I’ve been playing here with Manchester, it’s always a big rivalry for me and obviously for Worcester, and it was good, especially knowing how things ended.” For the Thunder, it was the third period that would kill them as in both games they collapsed in the third period in both games, however, it was a three-in-four week for the Thunder, and when asked if fatigue played a factor, Head Coach Pete MacArthur said, “no, absolutely not”, on the opposite side of the things, the back to back wins for Worcester is the first time they have completed that feat all season.
Cosgrove’s Three-Point Night Propels Railers To OT Win
GLENS FALLS- Coming into Friday Night, the Adirondack Thunder had failed to win a game in which they were behind, and tonight was no different as, for the fifth time this season, the Thunder would give up the opening goal as Brendan Robbins found Zach White in front for his third of the season at the 14:56 mark of the opening period, however, that lead would only last:17 as Shane Harper would feed Colin Felix who’s shot from the point would find the back of the net as it would be 1-1 after the opening period, it was the second straight game that Felix would find the back of the net.
In the second, each team would have a PP opportunity and would fail to convert, but Adirondack would get a PP late in the period as Yushiro Hirano scored on a nice shot from the circle as the Thunder went into the third with a one-goal lead and coming into Friday they were 6-0 when leading after two. Ashton Calder would give Worcester their third lead of the night but once again, Adirondack would respond quickly as 39 seconds later, it would be Ryan Orgel who’d provide the Thunder with the lead once again as they led 3-2, as Orgel followed in Felix’s footsteps scoring in his second straight game as well, “Ya, just trying to shoot the puck as much as I can if the lane is there and get pucks to the net and try and help the team offensively” Orgel.
Worcester pulled the goalie with about 2:00 remaining, and for the fourth time in four games, they’d score with the goalie pulled as Ashton Calder took a shot from the point to send the game into OT, “It’s big, we definitely have the confidence in our room that we are never out of a game, to score four goals six on five is huge for us but we have to stop putting ourselves in those positions” said Railers Head Coach Jordan Smotherman. Todd Goehring would get his first professional goal on the only shot for the Railers in the extra frame as Worcester completed the comeback. “Ya, I don’t think we played that well; they deserved to win that game; the first period wasn’t good enough, the second and third were a little better, but it didn’t seem like we had our normal energy or jump at all tonight,” said Adirondack Thunder head coach Pete MacArthur.
Adirondack’s Third Period Woes Ends Four Game Point-Streak
GLENS FALLS- The Adirondack Thunder were looking to avenge an OT loss on Friday Night, and on Saturday, they came out strong as they had a very strong first period and had a lot of good looks early on and would outshoot the Railers in the opening frame 15-7 but both Jeremy Brodeur and Tristan Lennox would stand on their toes and wouldn’t let anything past them. The Railers would open up the scoring at the 4:26 mark of the opening frame as Todd Goehring would feed Antony Callin who found the back of the net for his fourth of the season, as Goehring picked up his second point of the weekend. Travis Broughman would have a ton of chances in the opening frame and would finally be rewarded as he’d open the scoring for his second of the season, “Ya, been kinda a slow start so far this year, but you just gotta keep chipping away, get that feeling for the puck and one fell in for me tonight” said Broughman who finished the night with seven shots on goal”. Adirondack would get the lead before the end of the second as Yushiro Hirano fired a bomb that beat Lennox to give Adirondack a 2-1 lead.
On Friday, Adirondack lost their lead in the final minute of the game, but tonight, they would lose it in the course of 1:02 as Keegan Howdeshell forced an Adirondack turnover and fed Ashton Calder in front to tie the game, and then Jake Pivonka would find the back of the net to give Worcester a lead that they wouldn’t look back on as Zach White added an empty-netter in the final ten seconds of the game. When asked if he could put his finger on what went wrong tonight, Head Coach Pete MacArthur said, “We gave them pucks in the middle of the ice like we said not to do over and over again at the most important time of the game”. Adirondack would throw 38 shots at Tristan Lennox tonight, but he would stop 36 of them to pick up his fifth win of the season, “Ya, it’s obviously nice; the boys were letting me see it, and they had a good plan coming out in the first period” said Lennox.
Adirondack will begin another three-in-four on Wednesday as they welcome the back-to-back Kelly Cup Champion Florida Everblades to town.
