ECHL: Aidan Sutter Returns To Wheeling Nailers

Stacey Grubich/InsideTheRink

The Wheeling Nailers have re-signed defenseman Aidan Sutter for the 2025-26 season. Sutter began the 2024-25 season with the University of Calgary, where he had one assist in three games with the Dinos. The 22-year-old joined the Nailers in January and would put up two assists in 17 regular-season games, and was not on the Nailers Kelly Cup Playoff Roster. Despite having trouble finding his way into the lineup last season, I expect Sutter to find a role for himself as a third-pairing defenseman for the Nailers this season. He joins Matthew Quercia as the only other signing this Summer for the Nailers.

Aidan Sutter spent his junior career in the BCHL and the WHL. He would play in just eight games at the BCHL level, where he put up one assist with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. The majority of his junior days were spent in the WHL, where he spent four seasons with the Everett Silvertips. He would put up 11 goals and 49 assists for 60 points in 183 WHL games. The Kamloops, BC, native would add six assists in 11 WHL Playoff games.

Once his time in the WHL was over, he would head to USports and join the University of Calgary. He would spend just 10 games with the Dinos over the course of two seasons while putting up four assists. Sutter would add a goal and an assist in five postseason games with the Dinos in 2024. He made his ECHL debut during the 2023-24 season while skating in six games for the Florida Everblades.
