The ECHL All-Stars faced off against the Savannah Ghost Pirates at Enmarket Arena on Monday Night for the 2024 ECHL All-Star Game in what was expected to be a high-scoring affair and finished as an 18-11 victory for the ECHL All-Stars. Leading the way for the All-Stars in the 18-11 victory was captain Brandon Hawkins, who had a four-point night, “It’s special to be a captain here and to be around all of these guys, and we had a really fun group, and it’s a pleasure to be their captain” said Hawkins in a post-game interview. Hawkins also had one of the highlight goals of the night with a Spin-O-Rama and finished with a four-point night and a hattrick. For Savannah, it would be former Adirondack Thunder Sebastian Vidmar, who’d finish the night with two goals, along with winning the fastest skater completion.
All three goalies on the All-Stars, as well as Michael Bullion and Michael McNiven for Savannah, got a chance to play, and in a game with 29 combined goals scored, I asked Greenville’s Ryan Bednard goaltender, who gave up only two goals on 14 shots, what it’s like to be a goaltender in a night like tonight, “Ya, It’s a little different for sure, but I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect because it was my first one but it was a fun experience” said Bednard. The Greenville Goaltender wasn’t the only Swamp Rabbit down here as Andrew Lord served as one of the coaches for the ECHL All-Stars, “Ya, I’ve been with him for three years now, and he’s one of my favorite coaches, he’s great” said Bednard when asked about his head coach.
Mitchell Fossier of the Atlanta Gladiators would be named the ECHL MVP as he put up a goal and six assists in the All-Stars Victory; ITR’s Karen Zehner sat down with Atlanta’s captain earlier this year.
