ECHL: Allen Americans Re-Sign Defenseman Ty Farmer

The Allen Americans have announced that they have re-signed defenseman Ty Farmer for the 2024-25 ECHL season.

Junior and Collegiate Career

Ty Farmer started his junior career in the 2014-15 season with the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. He spent three seasons with Youngstown, part of a season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks, and a season with the Fargo Force. In his four seasons in the USHL, Farmer played in 169 games, where he had 14 goals and 49 assists for 63 points. He had 97 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +32. He was able to gain some playoff experience in two seasons with Muskegon and Fargo. Farmer played in 18 playoff games, where he had four goals and five assists for nine points. He had ten penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +4. In the 2017-18 season, Farmer and the Fargo Force won the USHL Clark Cup Championship, and Farmer was also named to the USHL Second All-Star Team.

Farmer then started his collegiate career at the University of Massachusetts, where he spent four seasons. He played in a total of 134 games at UMass, where he scored 11 goals and 33 assists, scoring 44 points. He had 86 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +45. In the 2018-19 season, Farmer and UMass were the NCAA Hockey East Regular Season Champions, and they won the NCAA Hockey East Championship in the 2021-22 season. In the 2020-21 season, they won the NCAA Hockey East Championship, and they were all the NCAA Frozen Four Champions.

For his fifth and final collegiate season, Farmer transferred to the University of North Dakota, where he had one goal and ten assists for 11 points. He had 27 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -7.

In his collegiate career, Farmer had many moments where he shined, including helping set up the game-winning goal for UMass in the 2021 NCAA Frozen Four Championship against St. Cloud State. Farmer also set up the double-overtime game-winner in his freshman season against New Hampshire. In his 171 collegiate games, Farmer had 234 shots and 124 blocks, including a career-high of 74 shots in the 2021-22 season and a career-high of 31 blocks in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. Farmer had an average of 1.37 shots and .73 blocks per game. HE ended his collegiate career with eight multipoint games.

Professional Career

After completing his collegiate career at North Dakota, Farmer signed with the Allen Americans in the ECHL to complete his 2022-23 season and then re-signed with the Americans in the 2023-24 season. Farmer has played in a total of 58 games with the Allen Americans, where he scored five goals and seven assists in 12 points. He had 34 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +10. Farmer has also played in the playoffs in both seasons with the Americans, where he has zero goals and two assists for two points in ten playoff games. He has two penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -2. In the 2023-24 season, Farmer played in 48 games with the Americans, where he had five goals and five assists for ten points. He had 30 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +9.

Farmer has already started to show that he can be a really solid defenseman for the Americans, and he can also have some offensive power at times. With his 53 shots last season, Farmer showed that he is not afraid to shoot the puck, even though he is a defenseman. Farmer is a defenseman who shows up for every game, but especially in the big moments when his team needs him most. Not only is Farmer not afraid to block shots, but he is also not afraid of shooting the puck to score much-needed goals. In the 2023-24 season, Farmer had an insurance goal, overtime-winning goal, and a game-winning goal.

The 2024-25 season will be Farmers’ third professional season and third season with the Americans.
