The Allen Americans have announced that they have signed 6’4″ forward Riley Ginnell for the 2024-25 ECHL season.

Junior Career

The Calgary, Alberta native spent his junior career playing in the WHL. In his five seasons in the WHL, Ginnell spent his time playing for the Brandon Wheat Kings, Moose Jaw Warriors, and Regina Pats. Ginnell played in a total of 163 WHL games where he had 31 goals and 35 assists for 66 points. He had 165 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +4. Ginnell played in 13 postseason games where he had two goals and six assists for eight points with 12 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +3.

Professional Career

After completing his junior career, Ginnell started his professional career in the ECHL with the Rapid City Rush. In 45 games with the Rush, Ginnell had three goals and four assists for seven points. He had 25 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of -10.

Ginnell had a bit of a slow start to his first professional season but, he is still young and early into his career which should allow for him to continue to grow his game. While he is not the most physical player, he is one of the bigger players on the ice. Ginnell has quite a bit of speed which does allow him to be up in the rush and help setup his team for plays to score goals. Ginnell has shown glimpses of talent and skill on the ice, which could allow him to become a nice asset for the Allen Americans.

The 2024-25 season will be Ginnell’s second professional season and first season with the Allen Americans.
