The ECHL Department of Player Safety has suspended Savannah Ghost Pirates defenseman Andre Anania one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for his actions in Friday Night’s game vs the Norfolk Admirals. Andre Anania and Carson Golder would get tied up, and with Golder defenseless, Anania would throw a few extra shoves, including throwing Golder’s head into the ice. Anania would be assessed a double-minor for roughing. The Savannah defenseman will miss today’s game vs the Norfolk Admirals. This is a tough loss for a Ghost Pirates team that has lost six of its last seven games.

Anania, 22, has two goals and six assists for eight points in 45 games this season with the Ghost Pirates. Six of his eight points have come in his last 11 games. He is currently on an AHL deal with the Charlotte Checkers.

The 6’1, 190lb defenseman would spend one year in the OJHL and three in the OHL before going pro. In his one season in the OJHL with the Stouffville Spirit, he would put up 14 goals and eight assists for 22 points in 52 games. The Richmond Hill, Ontario native would then play three years in the OHL with the Sudbury Wolves, where he put up 21 goals and 66 assists for 87 points in 180 games. He would lead all Wolves defensemen in goals (10) during the 2023-24 season. Anania added two assists in 13 OHL Playoff games and won an OHL Cup Silver Medal in 2019.
