ECHL Announces Fines and Suspensions | 01/21/2025

The ECHL Player Safety announced today that three players have been fined and suspended due to their actions this past weekend.

Trois-Rivieres’ Xavier Cormier Suspended Three Games

Trois-Rivieres Lions’ Xavier Cormier is suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount due to his actions in Sunday’s contest against the Norfolk Admirals. The disciplinary action is assessed under Rule #28 – Supplementary Discipline, following the major penalty and game misconduct he received. After the whistle blows at 17:59 of the second period, Cormier cross-checks an unsuspecting Brandon Osmundson. Osmundson goes headfirst into the boards but is able to get up under his own power after being down for a moment. In 34 games this season, Cormier ranks second on the Lions for points (32) and is tied for second in goals (13).

Cormier will miss the next three games: against Norfolk (Jan. 24), at the Maine Mariners (Jan. 26), and against Maine (Jan. 29).

Tahoe Knight Monsters’ Jakub Demek Suspended One Game

Tahoe Knight Monsters’ Jakub Demek is suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount. This falls under Rule 28 – Supplementary Discipline due to an unpenalized boarding penalty in Sunday’s contest against the Iowa Heartlanders. At 6:15 of the third period, Demek goes in for a loose puck in his defensive zone, but Heartlanders’ Will Calverley gains possession. Calverley had his back turned, facing the boards. Demek came in, looking for a hit the entire way, and boarded Calverley from behind. In just four games this season, Demek has two assists.

He will miss Tahoe’s next game against the Fort Wayne Komets on Jan. 24.

Tulsa Oilers’ Mike McKee Suspended One Game

Tulsa Oilers’ Mike McKee is suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount due to his actions in their Jan. 19 meeting with the Idaho Steelheads. The fine and suspension falls under Rule 28 – Supplementary Discipline as a result of head contact at 11:58 of the second period. While coming across for a hit, McKee made contact with the head of Steelheads’ forward Brendan Hoffmann. McKee was assessed a minor penalty for charging on the play. In 38 games this season, McKee has earned three goals and five assists, with a plus/minus of +4.

He will miss the next meeting against the Steelheads on Jan. 24.

According to the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, player fines collected by the ECHL are allocated to the PHPA for its ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund.
