The ECHL Department of Player Safety had a busy Saturday, handing out three suspensions related to Saturday Night’s Games.
Keegan Iverson Suspended
Norfolk Admirals forward Keegan Iverson has been suspended three games and fined an undisclosed amount for his actions in Saturday Night’s game vs Adirondack Thunder. Iverson would deliver a slew foot to Adirondack’s Sean Gulka at the 17:45 mark of the third period. He would be assessed a match penalty for slew-footing. The Minnesota native has two goals and two assists for four points, along with 62 penalty minutes in 23 games this season.
Matthew Quercia Suspended
The Wheeling Nailers will be without their captain, Matthew Quercia, as he’s been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his actions in Saturday’s game vs Kansas City Mavericks. Quercia delivered a high hit to Kansas City’s Casey Carreau at the 16:16 mark of the second period. He received a double minor penalty for high-sticking, a major penalty for fighting, and a game misconduct for being the aggressor, which escalated into an all-out brawl. Over 37 games this season, he has scored 10 goals and provided seven assists, totaling 17 points, and has accumulated 107 penalty minutes. As a result, Quercia will be absent from Wheeling’s game against Kansas City today (Jan. 26).
Brennan Kapcheck Suspended
Tahoe’s Brennan Kapcheck has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions in ECHL Game #565, Fort Wayne at Tahoe, on Jan. 25. Kapcheck was fined and suspended as a result of an unpenalized cross-checking infraction at 19:58 of the second period.
As a result, Kapcheck will miss Tahoe’s games vs. Fort Wayne (Jan. 26) and at Kansas City (Jan. 29). In 39 games, he has scored three goals and provided 22 assists, totaling 25 points. He has a plus/minus rating of 17, with 37 penalty minutes.
According to the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, any fines collected from players by the ECHL are directed to the PHPA’s ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund.
