The ECHL Department of Player’s Safety has announced that South Carolina Stingrays forward Garet Hunt has been suspended one game for an unpenalized kneeling penalty on Jacksonville’s Craig Martin at the 4:09 mark of the second period in Saturday’s game vs. Jacksonville Icemen. This is the second time that Garet Hunt has been suspended this season, as he was previously suspended for recording his 10th fight of the season. Hunt will miss Friday’s game vs Florida Everblades. This is a big loss for the Rays, as the Everblades have always been known as a team that isn’t afraid to throw around the body, especially a guy like Kyle Nueber.
In 66 games this season, Hunt has two goals and 11 assists for 13 points, along with 120 penalty minutes. This season is Hunt’s first year back playing in North America since the 2020-21 season, as he spent a year in Romania and then a year in the KHL with the Kunlun Red Stars before coming back to the ECHL. He would get named as the Rays captain on opening night as the Stingrays captaincy had been left vacant after Andrew Cherniwchan Hunt is currently in his 13th year in the ECHL as he’s spent time with the Stockton Thunder, Alaska Aces, Jacksonville IceMen, and Wheeling Nailers as he’s played in 775 games, putting up 105 games and 155 assists for 260 points, along with 2,807 penalty minutes, he led the league in penalty minutes in 2013 and 2016.
South Carolina can clinch a playoff spot on Friday with a win and a loss by the Orlando Solar Bears
