The ECHL Department of Player Safety has announced that they have suspended Florida’s Sean Allen for three games and fined him an undisclosed amount for his actions during Saturday night’s game against the South Carolina Stingrays. Allen was given a total of 29 penalty minutes for his actions at the 19:14 mark of the third period. The 26-year-old defenseman was ruled the aggressor in an altercation that resulted in over 150 minutes in penalties between the two teams.
Saturday’s game was the most penalized game all season, with a combined 185 PIMs. This is the second consecutive day the league has announced suspensions stemming from the Florida vs. South Carolina series. Allen is eligible to return on January 3rd against the Jacksonville Icemen. He has one goal and four assists for five points, along with 62 penalty minutes in 19 games.
Allen, 26, is in his sixth season in the league, having recorded six goals and 30 assists for 36 points, along with 727 penalty minutes in 257 career games with the Wichita Thunder, Cincinnati Cyclones, and Florida Everblades. The Puslinch, Ontario native was named to the ECHL All-Star Game in 2020. Allen spent 27 games overseas last season in the EIHL with the Dundee Stars, where he had four assists and 114 penalty minutes in 27 games, leading the league in PIMs. Prior to going pro, Allen spent five seasons in the OHL, where he had two goals and 20 assists for 22 points, along with 381 penalty minutes in 205 games.
