ECHL: Anthony Petruzzelli Returns to Fort Wayne Komets

The Fort Wayne Komets have announced that they have signed forward Anthony Petruzzelli for the 2024-25 season. Petruzzelli spent the first six seasons of his career as a member of the Komets, playing in 323 games, putting up 100 goals and 111 assists for 211 points while adding 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in 40 Kelly Cup Playoff Games. The 31-year-old forward would take the overseas route after the 2022-23 season but would quickly return to the ECHL after playing just five games. He would sign with the Jacksonville Icemen, where he would put up four goals and two assists for six points in 13 games with the Icemen before being part of a blockbuster deal that sent him to the Indy Fuel, where he put up eight goals and 13 assists, for 21 points in 48 games.

“It’s great having a Kelly Cup champ back with the Komets,” General Manager David Franke said. “Anthony is a favorite of all Komet fans. His hard-working style of play and durability are legendary.  This signing is a real positive for the Komets. Anthony will offer valuable veteran leadership and can produce offensively and play on special teams. All of us in the Komet organization are excited to have Anthony back in the orange and black.”

For Fort Wayne, this is a huge signing. It brings back a fan favorite and a player who wore a letter on his chest for four seasons and would help them win the Kelly Cup in 2021. I wouldn’t expect Petruzzelli to be a guy who’s going to put up 25-30 goals, but he could easily put up 15-20 goals and play a sizable role for the Komets next season.
