The Atlanta Gladiators will feature several recognizable faces in their leadership group for the upcoming season.

Captain – Eric Neiley

Eric Neiley is a fantastic choice for captain of the Atlanta Gladiators. He stands out as a veteran leader within the team, bringing a wealth of experience gained from multiple seasons with the Gladiators and other teams. His deep understanding of the game, and his past season as an Assistant Coach, has made him a well-established leader with qualities that have proven invaluable to Atlanta. Throughout his career, Neiley has consistently performed at a high level, as evidenced by his impressive statistics from the 2022-23 season, where he scored 44 points, including 25 goals and 19 assists in just 50 games. This offensive contribution marks him as a key player on the ice. Moreover, his commitment to the Gladiators is evident in his decision to return for the 2024-25 season after a brief retirement, showcasing his dedication and passion for the team, qualities that serve as an inspiration to his teammates. Neiley’s leadership extends beyond his performance; being chosen as captain reflects the respect and trust he has earned from his peers, solidifying his role as a vital figure in the team’s dynamics.

Alternate Captain – Cody Sylvester

Sylvester stands out due to his extensive experience and impressive leadership qualities. With over 300 ECHL games and a significant stint in Germany under his belt, he has developed a deep understanding of the game. His tenure as captain of the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL highlights his ability to lead and inspire those around him.

Not only is he a seasoned player, but Sylvester has also demonstrated consistent performance on the ice. During the 2022-23 season, he achieved career highs in goals, assists, and points, showcasing his scoring and playmaking abilities. This makes him an invaluable asset to any team, contributing both offensively and defensively.

Moreover, Sylvester’s presence adds a layer of maturity that is essential for nurturing younger players and enhancing overall team morale. His experience allows him to mentor emerging talent, fostering a cohesive and competitive team environment.

Finally, his decision to return to the Gladiators for the 2024-25 season signals a strong commitment to the team. This dedication is a crucial aspect of leadership, as it helps reassure teammates and builds a strong foundation for collective success. Sylvester’s blend of experience, performance, and commitment makes him a pivotal figure in the league.

Alternate Captain – Derek Topatigh

Derek Topatigh is an equally strong choice for alternate captain of the Atlanta Gladiators and will match well with teammate Cody Sylvester in this role. Here are a few reasons why:

Topatigh has consistently been recognized as one of the leading defensemen for the Gladiators. In the 2021-22 season, he recorded an impressive total of 40 points, comprising 13 goals and 27 assists, and he has continued to thrive in subsequent seasons. With experience across North America and Europe, he offers versatility and a deep understanding of diverse playing styles. His stint with the Wipptal Broncos in the Alps Hockey League saw him amass 43 points in just 40 games.

Topatigh’s return to the Gladiators for the 2024-25 season, after a successful period abroad, underscores his dedication and leadership abilities. His talent for leading by example, both on and off the ice, makes him an invaluable member of the team. Celebrated for being an outstanding teammate, Topatigh is highly valued and his positive demeanor and motivational skills will be crucial in promoting team cohesion.
