Recently, the ECHL announced the trade of Josh Boyko from the Worcester Railers to the Atlanta Gladiators for future considerations. Before going professional, this 5-foot-10, 170 lb. goaltender played for five seasons with Aurora University (NCAA Division III), participating in 105 games between 2017 and 2022. During this time, they achieved a record of 47-45-9, with a 2.85 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. The goaltender, who hails from Mississauga, ON, and was recognized for his exceptional performance, was also named to the All-Conference Freshman team in 2017-18 and the All-Conference team in 2019-20.
Boyko has participated in 19 SPHL games with the Macon Mayhem this season, recording a 3-11-3 record with a 3.47 goals-against average (GAA) and a .909 save percentage. He also played three games with the Worcester Railers, where he has maintained a .888 save percentage and a 4.08 GAA.
Boyko joins the Atlanta Gladiators after goalie Gustavs Grigals was injured earlier this week in the game against the Orlando Solar Bears. Grigals sustained the injury after a collision in front of the net in the third period. In his place, Brad Barone completed the game for Atlanta, where the team won in a stunning shootout.
The Gladiators are set to face off against the Solar Bears again starting this weekend when they return to Kia Center on Saturday, January 27th, for a 7 pm puck drop.
