ECHL: Bloomington Bison Re-Sign Their Captain

The Bloomington Bison have announced that they’ve re-signed captain Eddie Matsushima for the 2025-26 season. In 67 games with the Bison last season, Matisushima had 27 goals and 30 assists for 57 points, his 57 points were a career-high. He also played in two AHL games with the San Diego Gulls for the second consecutive season. Matisushima is the fourth signing by the Bison for the 2025-26 season. All the signings so far have been forwards.

Eddie Matsushima, 31, will enter his sixth season in the ECHL. He’s spent time with the Orlando Solar Bears, Maine Mariners, Worcester Railers, Tulsa Oilers, and Bloomington Bison. He’s put up 98 goals and 106 assists for 204 points in 269 career games. The Verona, Wisconsin, native was named to the ECHL All-Star Game during the 2022-23 season, where he finished the year with 28 goals and 19 assists for 47 points in 65 games. Matsushima has put up four goals and two assists for six points in 10 career Kelly Cup Playoff Games.

Matsushima has also played parts of three seasons in the SPHL with the Pensacola Ice Flyers. He’s put up 24 goals and 39 assists for 63 points in 67 games. In seven postseason games, he’s put up three goals and two assists for five points. During the 2020-21 season, he would put up 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points in 34 games as he would lead the Flyers to a President’s Cup. Matsusima would also be named to the SPHL Second All-Star Team during the 2022-23 season.
