ECHL: Bloomington Bison Sign Defenseman Marko Jakovljevic

The Bloomington Bison signed 24-year-old Canadian defenseman Marko Jakovljevic to a Standard Player Contract. Born in Brantford, Ontario, Jakovljevic stands at 6′ 4″ and weighs 207 pounds. The left-shooting defender is poised to immediately fortify the team’s blue line.

Juniors & Collegiate Background

Jakovljevic began his hockey journey in the OHL with the Sarnia Sting, where he developed defensive acumen and offensive instincts. In the 2019-20 season, he played 59 games, logging six points (2G, 4A) while amassing 76 penalty minutes. During the 2018-19 season, he appeared in 57 games, earning seven assists and 50 penalty minutes. In the 2017-18 season, he played 27 games, scoring a goal and three assists with 22 penalty minutes.

At Ontario Tech University, Jakovljevic has steadily elevated his game over four seasons. In the 2021-22 season, he suited up for 21 games, notching five assists and five points (4 PIM). The following season, in 2022-23, he made his mark over 29 games, contributing one goal, two assists, and three points—plus one power play goal—with 11 penalties (22 PIM). His breakout year in 2023-24 saw him shine in 29 games, tallying one goal, nine assists, and 10 points while earning one game-winning goal and collecting 17 penalties (50 PIM). In the current 2024-25 season, he has logged 30 games, adding two goals, three assists, and five points with 18 penalties (36 PIM). Overall, Jakovljevic has accumulated 23 points (4G, 19A) in 109 games.

The Bloomington Bison’s current 44.20% win percentage and balanced 23-24 record highlight a season where every game is pivotal. The addition of Marko Jakovljevic not only enhances the defensive corps but also injects depth into the lineup.

Jakovljevic adds depth to the Bison defense, complementing experienced players like Jake Murray and Carter Berger. Murray has contributed three goals and 14 assists in 52 games, while Berger has 24 points in 48 games. With his physical game and left-handed shot, Jakovljevic enhances both defensive and offensive transitions. His presence alleviates pressure on players like Case McCarthy and Bryce Montgomery.
