The ECHL Department of Player Safety announced two suspensions on Tuesday, issuing discipline to Orlando’s Brayden Low and Bloomington’s Lou-Félix Denis for actions that occurred in separate games on April 13. Both players were fined and suspended following major penalties and game misconducts that violated ECHL rules.
Lou-Félix Denis – Bloomington Bison
Bloomington forward Lou-Félix Denis has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions during the game between the Bloomington Bison and Fort Wayne Komets.
At 14:07 of the third period, Denis delivered a hit along the boards that was penalized as boarding, resulting in a major penalty and game misconduct. The incident occurred during a tightly contested game in which tensions were already high following multiple penalties and misconducts. Denis was assessed the discipline under Rule 28 – Supplementary Discipline after review by the Department of Player Safety.
Despite Denis’s ejection, the Bison mounted an impressive late-game comeback, tying the game in the final 12 seconds and winning 4–3 in a shootout. Denis will miss Bloomington’s next two games for which he is on an active ECHL roster.
Brayden Low – Orlando Solar Bears
Orlando forward Brayden Low received a one-game suspension and was fined an undisclosed amount following his involvement in the April 13 between Orlando and Jacksonville.
Low was assessed a minor for instigating, a major for fighting, and a game misconduct at 19:01 of the third period after dropping the gloves with Jacksonville’s Olivier Nadeau in the final minute of play. The altercation came during a chippy finish to a one-goal game and triggered Rule 46.22, which enforces an automatic suspension for instigating a fight in the final five minutes of regulation or overtime.
Low finished the night with 19 penalty minutes. Orlando, however, held on to win 3–2 and clinched an important road victory heading into the postseason. He will serve his suspension on April 18 when the Solar Bears open their playoff series against the South Carolina Stingrays.
League Reminder on Fines and Hardship Fund
As outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA), all fines collected are directed to the PHPA’s ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund, which supports players in need across the league.
