Forward Brogan O’Brien is heading overseas for the 2024-25 season after playing two games with the Fort Wayne Komets in the ECHL at the end of the regular season after playing five years in USports at Carleton University. For the 26-year-old forward, this was his second stint in the ECHL after playing in four games with the Kansas City Mavericks at the end of the 2017-18 season, where he scored a goal and added an assist. Prior to his time with the Mavericks, O’Brien spent three seasons in the WHL with the Prince George Cougars, putting up 44 goals and 86 assists for 130 points in 193 games; he would add two goals and one assist in 10 WHL Playoff games.
O’Brien, a native of British Columbia, would end up going to USports after his time with the Mavericks, as he would play five seasons at Carleton University. In 118 games with the Ravens, he put up 33 goals and 57 assists for 90 points; he added four goals and five assists for nine points in 17 playoff games in USports. O’Brien becomes the fourth player from the Komets to head overseas, joining Tyler Parks, Ture Linden, and Zach Andrusiak. However, Fort Wayne currently leads the ECHL with 17 players signed to contracts for next season, along with one player signed to a tryout in defenseman Tristan Trudel.
So far, five former ECHLers have joined the Stars, including Xavier Pouliot, Brett Gravelle, Keanu Yamamoto, and Zach Tsekos, who all joined Dundee this off-season.
