ECHL: Cedric Montminy Announces Retirement

Trois-Rivieres Lions Captain Cedric Montiminy announced his retirement from professional hockey at a press conference on Tuesday morning after six seasons in the ECHL and two years overseas in France and Germany. Montiminy would spend two years in the QMJHL/QJHL, putting up six goals and five assists for 11 points in 19 games in the QMJHL with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, and would also play in 41 games, putting up 24 goals and 46 assists for 70 points with the Sherbrooke College Cougars during the 2014-15 season. The following season, he would play in the QJHL with the Saint-Jerome Panthers, putting up 33 goals and 45 assists for 78 points in 55 games. The Quebec native would then head overseas to spend a year with Chambery of the France3 league, where he put up 17 goals and 21 assists for 38 points in 18 games; he would spend the following season in the Germany3 league, where he put up 23 goals and 36 assists for 59 points in 43 games.

Montminy’s ECHL career would begin during the 2018-19 season as he would spend three seasons with the Rapid City Rush, putting up 46 goals and 48 assists for 94 points in 155 games. The Quebec Native would return home for the 2021-22 season and would be named the captain of the ECHL’s newest expansion team, the Trois-Rivieres Lions, as he would spend the final three seasons of his career as the captain of the Lions putting up 57 goals and 60 assists for 117 points in 192 games with the Lions, he would add seven goals and four assists for 11 points in 13 Kelly Cup Playoff Games as Trois-Rivieres qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs in 2022 and 2024. The 29-year-old forward is currently the franchise leader for the Lions in goals, points, and assists.
