The Cincinnati Cyclones announced the signing of veteran Center Matt Boudens on Wednesday afternoon. He is a former Captain of the Cyclones’ Central Division rival, Fort Wayne Komets, where he won the Kelly Cup in 2021 during the COVID season. Last season, he suited up for 56 games with the Savannah Ghost Pirates, scoring 21 points, and spent time with the Henderson Silver Knights (five games). During his tenure with the Fort Wayne Komets, he was loaned to the AHL Chicago Wolves twice over two seasons, where he skated in 12 games.
Boudens, a 30-year-old Center, grew up in Pembroke, Ontario, and played for the Pembroke Lumber Kings of the CJHL early in his career. He won a CJHL Championship in the 2009-2010 season and a CHL T1 Championship in the 2010-2011 season. For the next three seasons of his career, he played for the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL, developing his game to where the University of New Brunswick eventually recruited him. At the University of New Brunswick, he scored 64 points in 137 games and won multiple championships with the university over five successful seasons.
“Having a new opportunity, a new team is really exciting”, said Boudens. “The hockey world is really small, so you’re usually connected to someone somehow, maybe you played with one of their buddies or someone they played at school with. There are so many connections in the hockey world so that went into my decision too.”
Boudens’s thoughts on joining Cincinnati ahead of the 2024-2025 season
Boudens, a left-handed centerman, brings great experience to this Cyclones club, looking to make a run back into the Kelly Cup Playoffs this upcoming season. Last season, the Cyclones missed the playoffs for the first time since 2017, as the team was plagued with injuries all season. Puck drops in Heritage Bank Center in one month on October 26th vs division rival, the Indy Fuel, at 7:00 PM ET, where the first 5,000 fans receive a Cyclones calendar.
