The Florida Everblades have announced the return of veteran defenseman Connor Doherty for the 2025–26 season. Known for his physical edge, penalty-killing presence, and steady leadership, Doherty brings nearly a decade of professional experience back to Estero.
A Proven Presence on the Back End
Doherty joined the Everblades midway through the 2024–25 season and made an immediate impact. He suited up in 60 regular-season games, contributing four goals and 14 assists while racking up 121 penalty minutes and a +30 rating—one of the best on the team.
That impact carried into the postseason. In 15 playoff games, he added five assists, providing steady minutes and a veteran presence when it mattered most.
Before arriving in Florida, Doherty had already built a strong resume. He served as captain for the Maine Mariners, where he logged over 100 games across three seasons. While in Maine, he tallied 46 points in 162 games and earned a reputation as a reliable shutdown defender with a vocal leadership style.
From Massachusetts Roots to Pro Hockey Mainstay
A native of Holden, Massachusetts, Doherty played four years of NCAA hockey at Sacred Heart University, where he served as an alternate captain and recorded 24 points in 137 games. He turned pro in 2017 with the Worcester Railers and has since played in over 400 ECHL games, with stops in Worcester, Kansas City, Maine, and Florida.
Doherty’s career totals include:
- 405 regular season ECHL games
- 13 goals, 79 assists, 92 points
- 604 penalty minutes
His steady presence and willingness to engage physically make him a valuable veteran on Florida’s back end.
Looking Ahead
The Everblades continue to shape their roster ahead of Opening Night on Friday, October 17th, when they face the Orlando Solar Bears at 7:00 PM. Doherty’s return adds a dependable defensive option as Florida looks to chase another deep playoff run.
