ECHL: Connor Ungar Named Goaltender of the Week (Dec 23rd-29th)

Connor Ungar of the Fort Wayne Komets has been named the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the period of December 23-29. During this time, Ungar achieved a perfect record of 3-0-0, boasting a goals-against average of 1.60 and an impressive save percentage of .947. On Friday, he made 18 saves in a 4-2 victory against the Indy Fuel He followed this with a standout performance on Saturday, making 39 saves in a 4-1 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Ungar then capped off the week by stopping 32 shots, including all four shootout attempts, in a 3-2 triumph against the Indy Fuel on Sunday.

Currently under a National Hockey League contract with Edmonton, Ungar has played in 14 games with the Komets this season, achieving a record of 9-5-0, a goals-against average of 3.12, and a save percentage of .890.

Last season, the Calgary, Alberta native posted a record of 20-6-0 in 26 games at Brock University, recording three shutouts, a 2.15 goals-against average, and a .932 save percentage. Ungar set a new program record with the most wins by a goaltender in a single season, finishing with a 20-6-0 record in 26 regular season games. He placed fourth in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) with a 2.15 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage, and second in the OUA with 767 saves and 1561:12 minutes played. Ungar made a career-high 44 saves in a single game during a 5-1 win over Waterloo and recorded three shutouts. In the playoffs, he had a 3-4 record, a 2.83 goals-against average, and a .918 save percentage

Prior to his time at Brock University, Ungar spent five seasons in the Western Hockey League, participating in 87 games with Brandon, Red Deer, and Moose Jaw. During his WHL career, he had an overall record of 53-20-5, including three shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.57, and a save percentage of .917.

Ungar’s impressive track record highlights his skill and continued potential as a young goalie.
