The Florida Everblades are bringing back a familiar face down the middle, re-signing forward Craig Needham for the 2025–26 ECHL season. The 26-year-old Medford, Massachusetts native is set to enter his third full year — and fourth ECHL stint overall — with the club, bringing veteran poise, defensive reliability, and a knack for rising to playoff intensity.
Three Tours in Estero
Needham’s Everblades story began late in the 2022–23 season when he signed out of Providence College and jumped directly into the pro game. He appeared in 11 regular-season games, gaining his first taste of the ECHL’s pace and physicality, and added valuable minutes in a playoff run that would help set the tone for his future role.
He returned in 2023–24 for another stretch drive, appearing in 11 more games and using his NCAA-honed defensive game to slot in quickly as a depth center. While his offensive numbers were quiet that year, his commitment to the penalty kill and strong board work made him a trusted role player.
By 2024–25, Needham had become a full-time fixture in the Everblades lineup. He suited up for 63 regular-season games, posting 8 goals and 10 assists for 18 points with a +9 rating. In the Kelly Cup Playoffs, he appeared in all 15 games, chipping in one goal and logging heavy defensive assignments. His 46 penalty minutes spoke to his willingness to engage physically and protect teammates.
At 5-foot-10 and 181 pounds, Needham plays a gritty, high-IQ game built for matchup roles. He excels at reading the play and frustrating opposing top lines.
College Leadership at Providence
Before turning pro, Needham spent five seasons at Providence College, serving as an alternate captain in 2023–24. Over 160 career NCAA games, he compiled 14 goals and 21 assists, with a standout 2022–23 campaign producing 9 points in 37 games. Known for his defensive commitment, Needham became a fixture on the Friars’ penalty kill and in key defensive-zone situations.
Junior Captaincy in the USHL
Needham’s leadership roots go back to his junior days with the Youngstown Phantoms. After two seasons as a reliable depth forward, he broke out in 2018–19 as team captain, scoring 15 goals and 25 points in 62 games while helping guide the Phantoms through the postseason. His playoff résumé included two assists in 11 games during their 2018 Clark Cup Final run.
Looking Ahead
With the Everblades looking to reclaim the championship, Needham’s return locks in a proven, dependable two-way forward who thrives in playoff hockey. His familiarity with Head Coach Brad Ralph’s system — and his ability to deliver under postseason pressure — makes him a vital piece as Florida reloads for 2025–26.
