The Cincinnati Cyclones recently announced that 21-year-old defenseman Chas Sharpe has been named the Inglasco ECHL Player of the Week. This recognition comes after an impressive week where Sharpe netted four goals and tallied one assist, contributing significantly to the Cyclones’ victories over the Utah Grizzlies and Maine Mariners last week. His achievement marks the first weekly award for a Cyclones player this season and highlights the team’s recent strong performance, going 8-1-1 in their last 10 games, and closing the gap with the Fuel and Bison in the Central Division standings, although the Fuel have three games in hand and the Bison have two.

Sharpe’s week was particularly noteworthy for his success on the power play, as he scored three power play goals, bringing his total to seven for the season. He currently leads the team in power play goals, showing his immense impact just past the midway point of the regular season. Also, Sharpe has found the scoresheet in four of his last five games with the Cyclones, showcasing his consistent offensive contributions as a rookie defenseman. Since joining the team, Sharpe has made a significant mark, leading all Cyclones players with 26 points, including 15 goals and 11 assists, while maintaining a -1 plus/minus rating.

His combination of defensive skills and a powerful slapshot has made him one of Cincinnati’s most lethal threats, especially on the power play. His teammates have been excellent at providing screens, allowing him to unleash his shots without giving goaltenders a chance to react. Looking ahead, the Sharpe and Burnside #1 defensive pairing will continue to be vital for the Cyclones’ breakouts from the defensive zone, particularly when combined with the speed of young forwards like Braeden Kressler and Ty Voit on the ice.

The Cyclones are set to face off against the Iowa Heatlanders this Friday at 7:35 PM EST, followed by a home game against Bloomington on Saturday at 4:00 PM EST, as they aim to continue their recent success.
