ECHL: David Cotton Re-Signs with the Kansas City Mavericks

The Kansas City Mavericks have announced that they have re-signed 6’3″ forward David Cotton for the 2025-26 season.

Junior and Collegiate Career

David Cotton started his junior career in the 2015-16 season where he played in the USHL with the Waterloo Black Hawks. In 48 games, Cotton had 15 goals and 15 assists for 30 points with 34 penalty minutes and a -12. In nine playoff games, he had two assists and eight penalty minutes.

After completing his junior career, Cotton started his collegiate career playing Division I hockey at Boston College where he spent four seasons, captaining the team in the 2019-20 season. In 148 games played, Cotton registered 57 goals and 70 assists for 127 points with 104 penalty minutes and a +25. Cotton was named to the NCAA Second All-American East Team, Hockey East All-Tournament Team, and Hockey East First All-Star Team in the 2018-19 season and was named to the Hockey East Third All-Star Team in the 2019-20 season. Cotton and the Eagles were the Hockey East Regular Season Champions in the 2017-18 season and 2019-20 season.

Professional Career

Cotton then started his professional career in the AHL where he spent his first four seasons playing with the Chicago Wolves, Coachella Valley Firebirds, and San Diego Gulls. In 117 AHL games, Cotton registered 25 goals and 21 assists for 46 points with 47 penalty minutes and a -1.

After a few seasons in the AHL, Cotton went down to the ECHL where he started with the Florida Everblades before being traded to the Kansas City Mavericks. Cotton has played 102 ECHL games, racking up 36 goals and 51 assists for 87 points, along with 43 penalty minutes and a +40 rating. In 32 playoff appearances, he added 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points, with 16 penalty minutes and a +1. He captained the Mavericks last season.

His return gives Kansas City a major boost, adding reliable offense and strong leadership. Cotton drives the play with his speed and scoring ability, playing a key role in the Mavericks’ recent success.
