The Orlando Solar Bears have bolstered their blue line with the signing of defenseman Davis Bunz for the 2025–26 ECHL season. The 26-year-old brings championship experience and a steady two-way game back to North America after spending last year overseas.
Professional Experience
Bunz joins Orlando after skating with the Nottingham Panthers in the EIHL, where he logged 53 games and posted 15 points (1G, 14A) during the 2024–25 season. He also added two points in three playoff appearances and played a role in Nottingham’s run to the EIHL Championship.
Before heading to the United Kingdom, Bunz spent two seasons with the Wheeling Nailers. In 2023–24, he wore an “A” as an alternate captain and delivered a strong offensive campaign, recording 31 points (10G, 21A) in 58 games. He also chipped in five points during Wheeling’s playoff push, proving his ability to contribute in high-stakes situations. In total, Bunz has 112 ECHL regular-season games to his credit, tallying 54 points from the back end.
NCAA and Development Path
Prior to turning pro, Bunz played four seasons at Providence College (NCAA), appearing in 122 games for the Friars. While his numbers leaned more defensive during his collegiate career, he developed into a reliable, stay-at-home defender who could also move the puck under pressure. Bunz first made his mark in the USHL with the Central Illinois Flying Aces, where his offensive instincts began to emerge.
What He Brings to Orlando
At 6’1” and 181 pounds, Bunz is a right-shot defenseman who can play in all situations. He combines size and mobility with leadership qualities gained from wearing a letter in Wheeling. His playoff experience and recent championship run with Nottingham give him a winning pedigree that should benefit Orlando’s locker room. Bunz’s mix of grit, composure, and offensive upside makes him an important addition as they prepare for the 2025–26 season.
