The Atlanta Gladiators have added a versatile and battle-tested piece to their blue line, acquiring Ryan Conroy from the Adirondack Thunder for the 2025–26 season. Known as a two-way defenseman with strong puck-moving instincts, Conroy brings professional experience, a proven college pedigree, and a hard-nosed junior background to a Gladiators team aiming to solidify its defensive core.
Impact at the ECHL Level
Conroy’s full-season run with Adirondack in 2024–25 showcased his reliability and offensive touch from the back end. Over 71 regular-season games, he posted eight goals and 21 assists for 29 points, adding 80 penalty minutes and a steady presence in key matchups. His ability to log heavy minutes, contribute on special teams, and transition the puck efficiently made him a valuable asset in the Thunder’s lineup.
His first taste of ECHL playoff hockey came during the 2023–24 campaign, when he suited up for nine postseason games and recorded three assists. That stretch helped solidify his reputation as a defenseman who can raise his game when the stakes are highest.
From Ivy League Blue Line to Pro Ranks
Before turning pro, Conroy spent four seasons anchoring the defense at Yale University. While the Bulldogs weren’t always offensive juggernauts, Conroy’s steady play and leadership qualities stood out. He finished his NCAA career with seven goals and 19 assists for 26 points in 121 games, all while earning a reputation as a dependable defender who could handle both shutdown assignments and puck-moving duties.
Junior Career and Early Development
Conroy’s journey to the pros began in the AJHL with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, where he captained the team in 2019–20 before finishing the season with the Spruce Grove Saints. Known for his strong first pass and physical edge, he logged significant minutes in all situations. He also spent a season in the USHL with the Omaha Lancers, where he continued to refine his two-way game against top junior competition.
Across his junior and college career, Conroy consistently demonstrated leadership qualities—often wearing a letter—and earned respect for his work ethic and poise under pressure.
What Conroy Brings to Atlanta
At 5’9” and 174 pounds, Conroy may not be the biggest defenseman on the ice, but his game is built on quick decision-making, strong skating, and smart positioning. He’s equally comfortable making a breakout pass under pressure or stepping into the rush to create offense.
For Atlanta, his acquisition provides both immediate depth and flexibility. Conroy can log top-four minutes if needed, contribute on the penalty kill, and help quarterback transitions out of the defensive zone—an area where the Gladiators will be looking for consistency this season.
With a full season of professional hockey under his belt, he’ll arrive in Atlanta with the confidence and experience to make an early impact.
