ECHL Expansion: Lake Tahoe Bronze Knights? 5 Name Concepts for the new Lake Tahoe ECHL Team

The ECHL recently announced that professional hockey will be coming to Lake Tahoe for the 2024-25 ECHL season. The team will be co-owned by former NFL player Tim Tebow and David Hodges, CEO of Hodges Management Group, LLC. The Lake Tahoe team will play at the Tahoe Blue Event Center located in Stateline, Nevada. The arena can seat more than 4,200 people.

The team has yet to reveal its name, but as mentioned throughout this article, there are potential names that could make a good fit for the new ECHL franchise.

#5 – Lake Tahoe Lumberjacks

“Lumberjacks” would be an idea for the team as several outdoor activities, themes, nature sites, and attractions are located in the Lake Tahoe area. The name “Lumberjack” could symbolically represent the strength and hard work of the team. Also, there’s history behind the inspiration for the name. Back in the 1860s, loggers in Lake Tahoe had to supply wood to silver mines, so an extensive logging empire was created along the east part of the lake.

#4 – Lake Tahoe Tigers

This team name concept doesn’t have much relation to Lake Tahoe itself, but when it comes to the name “Tigers,” it sounds vicious. The tiger is a large, ferocious cat and is an apex predator of its habitat. This could be a great fit if the new Lake Tahoe ECHL team becomes a challenge and rival to its opponents out west. These teams include the Idaho Steelheads, Utah Grizzlies, and Rapid City Rush.

#3 – Lake Tahoe Lakers

This would most likely make the most sense for the actual name of the Lake Tahoe ECHL team. Lake Tahoe is the largest freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada and the largest alpine lake in North America. The “Lakers” makes a nice fit and ring for the sound of the team name. There isn’t much else to say as the “Lake Tahoe Lakers” would be a simple, potential name for this newest ECHL team.

#2 – Lake Tahoe Tessies

The “Tessie” is a mythical creature believed to live in Lake Tahoe. It’s pretty well-known to the people who live in the area. The Tessie is a long, dinosaur-like sea animal and could represent the scariness and the power of this new ECHL team.

#1 – Lake Tahoe Bronze Knights

This is a potential name for the team that would be a great fit, as it could complete the other two “Knights” professional hockey teams, the Vegas Golden Knights of the NHL and Henderson Silver Knights of the AHL. The Ghost Pirates and Golden Knights partnered in 2022, but it is unclear how long the agreement is for and if the two sides plan to extend it once Lake Tahoe joins the league.

So, what do you think the official name of the Lake Tahoe ECHL team will be?

  1. Not a good name! They do not have an agreement with the VGK or HSK to even have players there! Second who wants to be a 3rd place team. Tessie would be good! Lumberjacks is already in use. How about Gamblers are the first hockey team in the Reno area! A little hockey history! Or if you want an animal have one named for a wild animal in the area, and a tiger is so over used in sports. Cougar, Mountain Lion, chipmunk, etc. BUT not BRONZE KNIGHTs!!!!
