ECHL: Filip Fornaa Svensson Heads Home To Sweden

Forward Filip Fornaa Svensson is returning home to Sweden to join Vimmerby HC after spending just one year in the ECHL. In 51 games during the 2024-25 season with the Fort Wayne Komets and Norfolk Admirals, the 26-year-old put up 25 goals and 14 assists for 39 points. Fornaa Svennson was acquired by Norfolk from Fort Wayne in exchange for cash on November 18th. He also played in nine games for the Norfolk Admirals during their Kelly Cup Playoff run. The 6’4, 216lb forward finished second in goals on the Admirals despite playing in just 48 games with the team. He had a rough end to his season, failing to find the scoresheet in his final 14 games of the 2024-25 season, including the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Fornaa Svensson joins Hank Crone as the second Admiral to take the overseas route this Summer.

Prior to going pro, Filip Fornaa Svensson spent five years at the NCAA level. Over the course of his NCAA career, he would put up 22 goals and 28 assists for 50 points in 121 games with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and UMass Lowell. He led the Polar Bears in assists (16) and points (25) during the 2021-22 season. Fornaa Svensson began his career in Sweden before coming to North America to play college hockey. In his final season before coming to North America, the 26-year-old forward has 19 goals and 21 assists for 40 points with Linköping HC J20 in the J20 SuperElit league.
