Filip Forsmark has decided to head overseas and will join IF Troja-Ljungby in HockeyEttan for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. IF Troja-Ljungby is an ice hockey club based in Ljungby, Sweden, competing in the Södra division of HockeyEttan, the third-highest league in Swedish ice hockey.
Forsmark, a versatile forward who plays both left and right wing, was traded from the Wheeling Nailers to the Atlanta Gladiators for future considerations this past October. He was later released from the team on November 1st.
Hailing from Skövde, Sweden, Forsmark spent four seasons at Merrimack College in the NCAA Division I Hockey East conference, where he made a notable impact on the team’s offensive efforts. In the 2021-2022 season, he accumulated 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in just 33 games. During the 2020-2021 season, he topped the team’s scoring charts with 13 points over 18 games, including three multi-point games and a career-high three points against New Hampshire. His nine assists that season were the highest on the Warriors.
Prior to joining Merrimack, Forsmark spent two seasons with the Tri-City Storm in the USHL, where he was a key offensive contributor, finishing second on the team with 52 points in his final season. His impressive performance included 14 goals and 38 assists, showcasing his skills as a playmaker. He also made an impact in the playoffs, adding five points in six games and helping lead the Storm to the Clark Cup conference finals in 2019.
Forsmark made his professional debut in the ECHL last spring, skating in two games with the Allen Americans, where he registered four shots on goal and had an even plus-minus rating. He has two brothers, Oscar and Carl, who also play professionally in Sweden. Oscar plays for HC Lidköping, while Carl is with Guldsmedshytte SK.
