The defending champions, the Florida Everblades, announced yesterday the return of defensemen Cole Moberg for the upcoming season. The North Vancouver, British Columbia native played with the Blades last season when they defended their title as the Kelly Cup Champions. Moberg was no doubt a key asset to the Florida Everblades last year, playing 67 regular season games and putting home six goals from the blue line along with 11 assists for 17 points. Transitioning into the post-season, Moberg tallied two goals, one of which was the game the Blades took the defending title as champions of the ECHL.
Before becoming an Everblade, he was a part of the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL) for the 2021-2022 season, where he put up 11 points in 21 games. The 22-year-old also saw ice time in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he spent two years splitting the games between the Rockford IceHogs and San Jose Barracudas. Moberg was initially given the opportunity to play hockey when he was drafted in the seventh round by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2019. Immediately following the draft, the blueliner went into the Western Hockey League (WHL), leading the Prince George Cougars all year with 40 points.
While the Everblades are looking for the “3-peat”, Cole Moberg is coming back to the swamp to earn his back-to-back championship title. He will have to kick it off with the first game of the season being against his former team the Orlando Solar Bears, on October 19th away at Amway Arena.
