Greenville, S.C. — With the conclusion of the Swamp Rabbits season underway, the club’s players have been making moves on where to play next season. Friday, May 24, it was reported that defenseman Max Martin would play in Sweden next season for the Mora IK. This comes after the d-man from Winnipeg, Manitoba, played the last two seasons for Greenville, holding a record of 19 goals and 58 assists. For the 2023-24 season, Martin was contracted under the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League; he played just three games and earned an assist. But he would spend the majority of his time with the Swamp Rabbits by playing 46 games and tallying up five goals and 20 assists. For that season, he earned the alternate captain rank with his teammates Anthony Beauchamp, Mark Louis, Tanner Eberle, Ethan Somoza, and Ethan Cap.
Martin’s pro career began during the 2020-21 season, as the d-man would play nine games for the Texas Stars of the AHL. His professional season debut earned him a goal and two assists. After that season, Martin would get another chance to play for the Stars in the following season. But he would only play 13 games and tally up two assists before getting sent down to the Idaho Steelheads (Stars’ ECHL affiliate), where he would then play 18 games and earn ten assists before capping off the season. After getting a taste of ECHL action, Martin would excel in his ECHL pro career even further by signing a contract with the Swamp Rabbits for the 2022-23 season. Martin played a nearly full season for the Rabbits (66 games), but he would shine as the top d-man and power play contributor to his team by topping 52 points (14G-38A). After playing 130 games in the ECHL and 25 in the AHL, Max Martin will play for Mora IK in Sweden, playing alongside Buffalo Sabres contracted goaltender Topias Leinonen; Martin is currently the only Canadian player on the roster.
