The ECHL Department of Player Safety has announced the suspension of Fort Wayne Komets forward Ethan Keppen for one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for his actions in Saturday night’s game against the Wheeling Nailers. Keppen delivered a high hit to Wheeling Nailers captain Matthew Quercia at the 19:41 mark of the first period. He was assessed a match penalty for an illegal check to the head. As a result, Keppen will miss today’s game against the Indy Fuel. He has been on a hot streak lately, putting up ten points in his last ten games.
The Ajax, Ontario native is having a career year this season, with 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points in 28 games. He also has a goal and two assists for three points in 11 games at the AHL level with the Chicago Wolves. Keppen is currently in his second season in the ECHL, having accumulated 29 goals and 41 assists for 70 points in 92 games with the Maine Mariners and Fort Wayne Komets.
Prior to turning professional, he spent three seasons in the OHL with the Flint Firebirds, where he recorded 79 goals and 67 assists for 146 points in 217 games. He has spent the majority of his career in the AHL after being drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Draft. In 67 AHL games, he has scored five goals and six assists for 11 points while playing with the Utica Comets, Abbotsford Canucks, Hartford Wolfpack, and Chicago Wolves.
