It was announced that the Utah Grizzlies have signed forward Blake Wells for the upcoming 2024-2025 ECHL season. Wells was first signed by Utah back on March 29th after getting done with college. He played three games with the Grizzlies, failing to find the scoresheet while having a -3 rating.
Wells played his last year of collegiate hockey at American International College, where he racked up four goals and six assists in 33 games played last season. Prior to American International College, he played at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell from 2019-2023. In those four years at UMASS, he scored just seven goals, adding 11 assists for 18 points in 77 games.
Prior to his collegiate days, the Blackie, Alberta native played a couple of seasons in the AJHL with the Okotoks Oilers; he played just one game in the 16-17 season. However, he played the next two seasons in full, where he played 94 games, scoring 56 points (25G,31A). This is the ninth signing by the Grizzlies this off-season, with Wells being the seventh returning player. Other players signed this year include Dylan Fitze, Cole Gallant, Max Neill, Jack Jacome, Aaron Aragon, Mick Messner, Kabore Dunn, and Luke Manning.
The Grizzlies roster is slowly being assembled. We are just over a month away from the start of training camp, with the season opening on Friday, October 18th. Wells will be part of a squad that will look to go back into the playoffs after just barely missing out at the end of last season.
