ECHL: Forward Trevor Mingoia Signs With South Carolina In Player/Coach Role

The South Carolina Stingrays have confirmed the signing of forward Trevor Mingoia to an ECHL contract for the 2024-25 season. Mingoia will serve as a player/coach for the Rays next season.

Mingoia has been actively involved in several top-tier European leagues for the past six seasons, including the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), Finnish Liiga, German DEL (2021-22), and Norwegian EHL. In the 2023-24 season, he predominantly competed for Västerås IK  in the HockeyAllsvenskan league, which stands as the second-highest professional ice hockey level in Sweden. Over the course of 28 games with Västerås IK, he managed to amass 23 points, comprising of seven goals and 16 assists.

Before his tenure in European hockey, Mingoia spent two full seasons in North American professional hockey. In the AHL, he accumulated five points in 28 games (2 goals, 3 assists). During his time in the ECHL, playing for the Atlanta Gladiators (2016-17) and the Norfolk Admirals (2017-18), he scored a total of 54 points, with 31 goals and 23 assists, in 76 games.

Before turning pro, Mingoia showcased his talent in the NCAA over four seasons. After a year at Union College, he spent three outstanding seasons with the Providence College Friars, culminating in a memorable national championship victory in 2015 against the top-ranked Boston University Terriers. Throughout his collegiate career, Mingoia tallied an impressive 89 points from 120 games, with 37 goals and 52 assists.

The Stingrays will kick off their 2024-25 season on Saturday, October 19, by hosting the Savannah Ghost Pirates at home.
