ECHL Game Preview: Adirondack Thunder vs Trois-Rivieres Lions| 11/27/2024

The Adirondack Thunder (7-5-0-1) will begin a five-game homestand on Wednesday Night as they welcome the Trois-Rivieres Lions (8-3-2-0) to town for the second of 14 matchups between the two teams this year. Adirondack comes into Wednesday having lost four of their last five games, as the Lions come in with points in each of their last five games.

Prior Matchups

The Adirondack Thunder and Trois-Rivieres Lions have met twice this season, with the home team winning both matchups. In the Thunder’s home opener, Adirondack shut out the Lions at home, but they suffered their first loss of the season in Trois-Rivieres in a 2-1 shootout loss.

Keys To The Game

Early Starts:

One of the biggest keys tonight is getting an early start. Adirondack has only scored the first goal in five of its 13 games. The Lions, on the other hand, have scored first in 10 of their 13 games and are 7-1-2 when scoring first. Adirondack has also had an issue of giving up the first goal on the first shot of the game, as they’ve given up a goal on the first shot in three of the last four games.

Special Teams

Coming into Wednesday night, the Lions come into the game leading the league on the PP (35.1%) and have at least one PP goal in their last seven games. Adirondack started off the year strong, killing off the first 22 penalties that they committed, but have struggled of late as they gave up three PP goals and two short-handed goals during their four games road trip.

Keeping Their Cool

Last week, both Adirondack and Trois-Rivieres would have one of their coaches ejected from a game. Adirondack Thunder Assistant Coach Mike Bergin was ejected from Saturday’s game vs South Carolina Stingrays and Ron Choules, head coach of the Trois-Rivières Lions would be tossed on Sunday Afternoon vs Worcester Railers. Both coaches are expected to be on their respective benches on Wednesday Night.

Players To Watch

Luke Cavallin (TR)

The 23-year-old goaltender has gotten off to a hot start this season, going 3-2 with a 1.62 GAA, and .951SV% in five games this season. He currently leads the league in SV% (.951) and is second behind Florida’s Cam Johnson in GAA, who has a 1.33 GAA. Cavallin made 40 saves in the Lions 2-1 loss to the Thunder on October 26th.

Josh Filmon (ADK)

There weren’t a lot of bright spots for the Thunder during their road trip. However, one of them was Josh Filmon, who had three goals in four games for Adirondack. Filmon, who signed his entry-level deal with the Devils this season, began the year in Utica playing eight games, failing to find the scoresheet, and now has three goals and an assist in seven games with the Thunder.
