Greenville, SC—The Greenville Swamp Rabbits will face the Atlanta Gladiators tonight (February 17) as they will host a Star Wars-themed night with a special Light Saber giveaways for fans in attendance. The Swamp Rabbits are now 32-15-2-0 with 66 points; they are currently second in the Eastern Conference, behind the Adirondack Thunder, and first in the South division. The Greenville team has been a sticky spot in terms of recent performances: in their last five games played, they’ve only won one of them, as they lost 7-0 to the South Carolina Stingrays last night (February 16) and three in a row to the Newfoundland Growlers last week. Meanwhile, the Gladiators are 17-29-2-1 with 37 points, making them last in the Eastern Conference and South Division. The Swamp Rabbits have a 22% PP success, with their top players being Max Martin, Brett Kemp, Nikita Pavlychev, Carter Souch, and Josh McKechney. The Gladiators have a near same success of 2,1%, with their top players being Micah Miller, who scored four goals in his last five games played and three PP goals in total—along with Cody Sylvester who’s scored six PP goals. For their PKs’, Greenville has one of the best PK’s in the South Division at 81%, while the Gladiators are at 77%. The Swamp Rabbits have solid PK players, including Ben Freeman, Ethan Somoza, and L.A. Grissom. Somoza, as of late, has been a viable asset on the PK as a blue-line, stand-by forward.
Despite their recent game performances, the Swamp Rabbits have a roster of new players from recent acquisitions, including Jake Stevens, Cole Donhauser, and Austin Saint. So far, Donhauser has played three games for the Rabbits, recording an assist. In regards to their last games played, the Swamp Rabbits have shown a lot of mid-season fatigue; they’ve been struggling in their own defensive zone and neutral zone by allowing unnecessary turnovers and d-zone rushes from the opposing team and not orchestrating the right o-zone rushes from aggressive forechecking in the offensive and neutral zone.
