ECHL Game Recap: Adirondack Thunder vs Maine Mariners | 03/23/2025

Maine Mariners/ECHL

The Adirondack Thunder would finish off their final road three-in-three of the season as they took on the Maine Mariners on Sunday afternoon in Portland, Maine. Before the game started, things would go South for the Thunder as Jeremy Brodeur, who was expected to get the start, got hurt in pre-game warm-ups, which forced Henry Welsh to make his second start and third appearance after signing with the Thunder last week. Adirondack would get two PP opportunities in the opening frame but couldn’t take advantage after scoring a season-high three PP goals on Saturday Night. After 20 minutes of play, neither team would find the back of the net as the Thunder would outshoot the Mariners 7-4 in the period.

For the second straight game, the Mariners struck quickly in the second as Jacob Hudson got a stick on a shot from Tristan Thompson to open up the scoring just 1:34 after the opening faceoff to open up the scoring. One of the bright spots this season for Adirondack has been their ability to score short-handed goals and that continued on Sunday as Kishaun Gervais would make a great place to steal the puck of the stick of Nolan Maier and wrap it around for his ninth of the season, and fifth as a member of the Thunder to tie the game up at one. Maine would regain their lead less than three minutes later, just after Darian Skeoch had a great chance, but the Mariners came back down the ice as Brooklyn Kalmikov beat Ryan Conroy and Welsch for his 18th of the season to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead, and that’s where we stood after 40 minutes of play.

Once again, it would be early goals that would kill the Thunder as Sebastian Vidmar and Xander Lamppa put home their ninth of the year less than five minutes in to give Maine a 4-1 lead. Josh Nixon would pick up his first ECHL point with an assist on the Vidmar goal. Adirondack would start to claw their way back into the game as Luke Reid would find the back of the net for his first pro goal and second point in as many games. Adirondack would pull Welsch with just over two minutes to go, and Ryan Wheeler would put home his ninth of the season to put the Thunder within one but that’s as close as they’d come as Jacob Hudson added an empty-netter for his second of the game to seal the 5-3 win for Maine.

Adirondack will return home on Wednesday to start a four-game home stand, which will include three games against the Indy Fuel and a game against the Worcester Railers.
