ECHL Game Recap: Adirondack Thunder vs Norfolk Admirals | 12/06/2024

Adirondack Thunder/ECHL

The Adirondack Thunder (9-7-0-1) would host the Norfolk Admirals (11-4-3-0) on Friday night, with Adirondack winning three of the first four meetings between the two teams coming into tonight. It would be yet another slow start for the Thunder as Stephan Timofeyev fed Brady Fleurent in front to give Norfolk a 1-0 lead just 1:53 into the game. Norfolk would double their lead as Ryan Chyzowski would get a breakaway and beat Jeremy Brodeur to make it 2-0 less than five minutes into the game, and the Thunder would be able to keep the Admirals at bay for the rest of the period, as they trailed 2-0 after the opening 20. In the second, things didn’t get better for the Thunder, as Denis Smirnov was left alone in front to put home a rebound to make it 3-0 Norfolk less than five minutes into the period as they would head into the third that same 3-0 lead. It would continue to be all Norfolk in the third as Sean Montgomery would find the back of the net for his fourth of the year to make it 4-0 at the 3:22 mark of the third period.

“They have, but they beat us the first two games and then I watched Wednesday’s game and they did a lot of good things but they are kinding burning the boats at both end, I mean that as a compliment, they are running walls with their D, they are coming two-man heavy with their forechecks, they are all over the puck so for us we knew had to be laced and make it a little bit of a messy game early and I told the guys you have may not have 8-10 offensive shifts a period, it might be two or three a period but when we get our chances we know we’ll have success”

Norfolk Admirals Head Coach on getting on the board early on Friday Night

Heading into the third, Adirondack and Norfolk had combined for just eight penalty minutes through the opening 40 minutes. To put that in perspective, these two teams had 162 combined penalty minutes through the first four games of the season, including 48 penalty minutes in each of the last two meetings. Fight Night in Glens Fall would begin at the 4:09 mark of the period as Ryan Conroy and Ryan Chyzowski would drop the gloves, and just as that fight was ending, it would be Kurt Gosselin and Filip Fornaa Svensson who would drop the gloves, as Gosselin and Svensson would both get game misconducts for the secondary altercation. Alex Young would get the Thunder on the board with a rebound goal in front at the 6:01 mark, as it was his third goal and fourth point in his last three games. Norfolk would add a PP goal as Brady Fleurent capped off his four-point night by feeding Stephan Timofeyev for his fifth of the season less than two minutes after the Thunder goal. Tensions would continue to boil over as Patrick Polino and Carson Musser dropped the gloves at 11:06 as the two teams combined for 80 penalty minutes in the third period. Brandon Osmundson would add a breakaway goal as the Thunder surrendered at least six goals to their opponent for the third time this season.

“Ya, absoultey, It’s always fun coming back and playing against them, you know it’s gonna be a good game, they ended our season last year here in this building it was good to be in the good end tonight”
