ECHL Game Recap: Adirondack Thunder vs Orlando Solar Bears | 01/12/2025

Adirondack Thunder/ECHL

The Adirondack Thunder came into Sunday Afternoon on a positive note after a strong game on Saturday night despite a 4-3 OT loss. In the opening frame, the theme of penalties would continue as Adirondack would be short-handed just 1:29 after the opening faceoff, and despite killing it off, Orlando’s Jarrett Lee would find the back of the net just four seconds after the penalty expired to give the Solar Bears a 1-0 lead. Adirondack would outshoot the Solar Bears 10-9 in the opening 20 minutes but also took three penalties, which isn’t ideal for a team that came into the night 27th in the league on the PK.

“Yeah, I mean it’s been a long process to get to this point, but the last two games, the effort’s been there and it’s hard to lose those games. That’s exactly what we expect now every single night now going forward, especially at home. We had a great crowd again tonight and it’s just feeding off the energy, the efforts there and it’s just little tiny mistakes we need to clean up and then just the discipline”

In the second, it would be one of the best periods for the Thunder in a long time as Adirondack got on the board just 1:31 into the period as Grant Loven won a faceoff and fed Dylan Wendt for his fifth goal. Any momentum Adirondack had would quickly be wiped away as 32 seconds later, the Thunder headed back to the PK, and this time it would be Tyson Feist who fed Hudson Thornton on the PP to give Orlando the lead back just 2:23 after the Thunder tied up the game. Shaw Boomhower would be given a very questionable 10-minute misconduct at the 15:13 mark, but it gave Adirondack a spark as 34 seconds later, the Thunder would find the back of the net late in the period as Kevin O’Neil and Josh Filmon would team up for Filmon’s third goal of the weekend and eighth of the season as after outshooting the Solar Bears 19-5, the Thunder would head into the third period tied up at two with Orlando.

“Filly’s coming. He’s skating harder and figuring out the pro game and what works for him and Kevin always works hard and the plays don’t always he finished off that he creates but he’s around the puck trying to do the right. I think all four of our lines showed they have a little bit of chemistry and a positive impact on our game, certaintly that line with four goals, that’s pretty good for them”

In the third, it would be another questionable call late in the game that sent Adirondack to their fifth penalty kill. Orlando would take advantage of the opportunity as Alex Frye would find Aaron Luchuk for his 15th goal of the season at the 15:47 mark of the third period. Despite the losing streak now reaching seven, there are some positives you can take out of the game tonight, as the Thunder have looked much better in the last two games than they have during the previous five games of the losing streak, however with the loss Adirondack falls to last place in the North Division. Ryan Fanti made 33 saves for Orlando as he picked up his third win in as many nights.

“Ya, I’m happy with their effort, I feel bad for them if I’m being honest we’re getting decimated and we’re not getting help at any turn at all. I don’t like making excuses but these guys are working very hard at figuring it out and we got a young team. We don’t want night’s like Friday to happen but they’re gonna so hopefully these guys can get some good fourtanes sometime soon”

Adirondack will now play a game in Worcester on Friday night before taking a full week off and welcoming the Norfolk Admirals to the Cool Insuring Arena for a three-game set.
