The Adirondack Thunder and Reading Royals met for the eighth time this season, almost a third of Adirondack’s games. In the first, it would be T.J. Friedmann, who got his stick on a shot from Dylan Wendt to open up the scoring just 1:03 in. The physicality from last night carried into tonight as Kurt Gosselin and Sawyer Boulton dropped the gloves at the 7:07 mark. Reading would get on the board at the 14:05 mark as Brock Caufield would fire a one-timer on the second PP of the game after the Royals spent all two minutes on their first-man advantage in the offensive zone but couldn’t find the back of the net. For Caufield, it was his first goal since coming back from an injury that kept him out for over a month. The Royals would take the lead late in the period as Cam Cook fed Connor Walters in front for his first goal since December 10th, 2023, when he was a member of the Kalamazoo Wings.
“Our game plan was a good first five minutes and I feel like they were a lot more physical and we just took too many penalties, it’s hard to get back when your on the kill for so long. I think we played a pretty decent game but it’s tough when your on the kill all night”
Tag Bertuzzi when asked what the difference was between last night and tonight
Adirondack would tie up the game at the 8:50 mark as Tag Bertuzzi would feed Dylan Wendt for his first goal as a member of the Thunder. Less than three minutes later, Connor Walters would find the back of the net once again for his second goal and his first two-goal game of his career, which opened the floodgates for the Royals. Adirondack’s PK had a rough night, and it was on full display late in the second as Lou Felix-Denis and Matt Brown scored back-to-back PP goals, which came less than two minutes apart as the Reading would take a 5-2 lead heading into the third period. The goal by Matt Brown would end Jeremy Brodeur’s night as he gave up five goals on 26 shots. This was the fourth time Brodeur has given up five goals or more this season and his second straight game of giving up at least five goals.
“We played awesome last night and then went to sleep tonight. First of all, to take the kind of penalties we took is just selfish and stupid honestly, if I’m being frank and we get scored on three times and that’s not recipe for success”
Head Coach Pete MacArthur on his overall thoughts on the weekend series vs Reading
The third period would be a rather quiet one until Ryan Leibold would send Jake Smith on a breakaway as he would beat David Fessenden for his fifth goal and fourth against the Thunder this season. Ryan Conroy and Sawyer Boulton would drop the gloves at the 17:36 mark for the second fight of the game, and Sawyer would get tossed for it being his second fight of the night. Adirondack would find the net once more before the final buzzer as Tag Bertuzzi picked up his fifth goal of the season and third point of the night. He finished the weekend with three goals and two assists for five points.
