The Adirondack Thunder and Trois-Rivieres Lions began their three-in-three on Friday Night in Glens Falls, NY as the Thunder searched for their first home since December 4th vs Worcester Railers. It was a promising start for the Thunder as Greg Smith fed Ryan Conroy in front, getting the Thunder on the board four minutes after the opening faceoff to give Adirondack a 1-0 lead. Smith has been one of the bright spots for Adirondack, now with one goal and three assists in his last four games. Just 37 seconds later, the Lions opened up the scoring as Xavier Cormier took a shot from the point to tie the game. Less than a minute later, a Benjamin Lindberg turnover led to a Jakov Novak goal, making it 2-1. Trois-Rivières added one more as Cormier picked up his second of the night. The Lions scored three goals in 1:37, prompting Adirondack Thunder head coach Pete MacArthur to call a timeout to try and settle down the team.
“Yeah, definitely. They are a good team and we gotta play really tight and really smart versus them, and they made us pay tonight”
Kevin O’Neil when asked if the turnovers hurt them tonight
Coming into tonight, the Lions had the top-rated power play in the league, converting at 28.4%. Their success continued as Alex Beaucage picked up his 11th goal while playing in just his 12th game this season. Less than two minutes later, Morgan Adams-Moisan found the back of the net for the Lions’ fifth goal of the period, ending Tyler Brennan’s night after he gave up five goals on 12 shots in 14:10 of action. Anthony Beauregard walked in all alone at the 17:15 mark of the period and beat David Fessenden, making it 6-1 Lions after just 20 minutes of play. This is only the second time Adirondack has given up at least six goals in a period, the first being on November 21, 2019, against the Brampton Beast.
In the second period, the Thunder searched for something to get them going. At the 5:35 mark, Ryan Francis dropped the gloves with Xavier Cormier to try and get the crowd back into the game. Adirondack got the only goal of the second period as Andre Ghantous got his stick on a shot from Grant Loven for his ninth goal of the season, making it a 6-2 game. Isaac Dufort added another power-play goal in the third for the Lions as they cruised to a 7-2 victory on Friday night.
“I liked our second and third, I think we all did. For some reason we came out timid and played on our heels there in the first and you see what happens when you come out like that against a good team”
Ryan Wheeler, on the positives the team can take-away from tonight
Adirondack will likely get Darian Skeoch back in the lineup on Saturday night as he’s expected to make the trip up north with the team after missing Friday night’s game. Head Coach Pete MacArthur will not make the trip, with Mike Bergin taking over head coaching duties and Zach Walker serving as the assistant coach.
