The Adirondack Thunder played their worst game of the season but still picked up at least one point in the standings against the Trois-Rivieres Lions, who sit in last place in the Division, and despite a Norfolk win, they still have a six-point lead atop the North Division standings. In the opening frame, it would be a weird bounce off the boards that landed on Tristan Ashbrook’s stick as he hit an almost wide-open net to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. However, Adirondack looked awful in the opening frame putting just four shots on net in the opening 20 minutes as Vinnie Purpura would have to make 14 saves in the opening frame as somehow Adirondack led after the opening period. In the middle frame, it would be yet another weird bounce, but this time, it would go in the Lion’s favor as Nicolas Lariviere picked up his fourth goal of the year. The Thunder would have a chance to shift the momentum on a man-advantage, but some sloppy passing would lead to a Justin Ducharme break-away as he went backhand-forehand to beat Purpura for his 13th of the season, things didn’t get much better for Adirondack as a Nolan Yarmenko wrap-around would make it a 3-1 and then on one of a bucketful of two on ones Larvivere would pick up his second of the game and now has six of his 13 points this year against Adirondack, Grant Jozefek picked up his second goal in as many games, but the Thunder would still be down 4-2 after 40.
Adirondack’s alarm finally went off prior to the third period as Jackson Van De Leest fed Yushiro Hirano for a one-timer to put the Thunder within one, and then Ryan Smith scored as Adirondack pulled the goalie for the extra attacker as somehow, in their worst game of the season, Adirondack somehow someway would come out with a point, but, as the team deserved Alex-Olivier Voyer would find the back of the net at the 1:45 mark of OT. Vinnie Purpura, who kept the Thunder in the game for the most part, would finish the game with 29 saves.
