The Adirondack Thunder would begin a three-game road trip on Friday Night as they would head North of the Border to face the Trois-Rivieres Lions to start the trip. It would be the first game for the “new look” Thunder after Alex Young and Ryan Francis were traded to the Atlanta Gladiators prior to yesterday’s 3 PM Trade Deadline. Adirondack would play a man short on Friday as Sean Gulka was sick, and Gustav Muller was out of the lineup but is expected to return to the lineup on Saturday in Maine. All four Thunder rookies signed last week would make their pro debuts in Trois-Rivieres.
Adirondack would get an early chance to get the lead as Ty Gibson, who’s had some good looks of late, would get another one but couldn’t find the back of the net as he’s still searching for his first pro goal. Trois-Rivieres would open up the scoring as Jacob Paquette would fire a shot from the point that would beat Jeremy Brodeur at the 11:41 mark of the opening frame. The Thunder were hoping to head back to the locker room with just a one-goal deficit, but the Lions had other ideas as Isaac Dufort fed Tyler Hylland at 18:24, and 47 seconds later, Anthony Beauregard fed Logan Nijhoff in the circle for his 18th of the season as the Lions had a commanding 3-0 lead after the opening 20.

The Thunder had a golden opportunity to cut into the Lions lead, as they were gifted with a five-on-three for 1:34 less than two minutes into the middle frame, but they couldn’t find a way to take advantage of it. Trois-Rivieres would get a PP of their own later in the second, and they would convert as Logan Nijhoff put home his second of the night at the 9:34 mark. The Lions captain, Morgan-Adams Moisan, would add a goal less than two minutes with a tip-in for his 20th of the night. Adams-Moisan’s goal would end Brodeur’s night as Henry Welsch would make his first pro appearance in relief of Brodeur at 11:53 of the second period. The frustrations for the Thunder started to kick in late in the second as Darian Skoech threw a huge check on Anthony Beauregard, which led to Nijhoff and Skeoch getting tangled up. Adirondack would get another golden chance as Greg Smith got a short-handed break-away but would be stopped by Luke Cavallin.

Trois-Rivieres would get an early PP, and again, it would be Logan Nijhoff who found the back of the net for his third of the game and 20th of the season, and team-leading ninth goal on the PP. The shot from Nijoff would be the only shot the Thunder allowed in the third period, and it would be the second time this season Adirondack held an opponent to a single shot on goal in a period. Darian Skeoch would break Cavallin’s shutout at 8:05 as he found the back of the net for his career-high third goal of the season. The Thunder would outshoot the Lions 20-1 in the final 20 minutes despite suffering a 5-1 loss. Luke Cavallin made 36 saves for his 18th win of the season, as he’s now given up two goals or less in his last six starts.
